When a bride books me to shoot their wedding, we become cell phone textaholics.  Texting details, photos, and general nonsense back and forth.  I love it because I want a bride to know I’ve got her back and whatever she wants for the big day, I want! So when I met Kathy in real life, it was such a treat! She is as sweet and lovely in person as she seemed in all of her text messages! I can not wait for the wedding!

There were moments during the shoot that I caught her (future) husband just looking in awe, shaking his head and saying, “Isn’t she beautiful?”

And through my lens I just kept repeating to myself…”Yes.  Yes she is…” She is sooo photogenic, it is insane.  And, after seeing pictures of those in the bridal party? It’s like they hired models…it’s going to be an amazing wedding! Here are some of my favorites from our family session…

Caution: dueling cuteness! I LOOOOOOVE this photo of father-daughter.  Sigh… Heart.  Melted.

Shot after shot…these gorgeous faces…

Don’t even get me started on this little guy.  I may steal him at the wedding.  He’s too much!

So great finally meeting you guys in person, the wedding will be here before you know it! I am so honored and blessed I get to photograph it!

Stamp This

I’ve been trying half heartedly to get a reasonably priced stamp from the logo but it wasn’t happening.

Well leave it to my mother to get things done when I abandoned the cause! Coming to packaging near you…

…Kaitlyn and I were meant to work together! She is stunning, smart, talented and cool…when she showed up to her portrait session and I’m like, “What kind of clothes you got?” I peered into her back seat and yes…she brought a ton of cute clothes! I loved them all.  It was really, really, hard to pic my favorites for the blog post because she photographs soooooo well…

One of the million reasons I loved working with K? Because she said, “Lets hit the lake and get the light from the sunset….”  OMG, read my mind.  It was a bit chilly and rainy but she toughed it out and let her inner supermodel shine through…

We went inside when light turned to dark and she gave me the most beautiful, beautiful images…FIERCE…

I looooove when seniors want me to bring props, it makes everything that much more fun.  Since she’s into photography I brought some old cameras: a 1968 Polaroid and my old 1983 Minolta film slr camera, which is close to my heart since I’ve done a TON of shooting with that camera back in my younger days!

Seriously, look at this face.  It is perfection.

Special thanks to makeup artist Stephanie Avila: www.makeupmassacre.com She’s insanely talented!

Love the fur trim on that coat, she is straight out of Teen Vogue.  Kaitlyn, had so much fun, all the best to you and an amazing senior year!

At my most recent wedding in Albany (and any photo shoot in Albany, NY) I stayed with a friend who has a wicked sense of humor.  Either he’s trying to be funny or he knows he is my exclusive Albany hotel.  Either way…on my pillow in the guest bedroom…

I had a few in my mouth before I could even say thank you! By the way, Can not wait to blog about my last wedding of 2010.  It was EPIC!

I am constantly in awe of the high school teens I photograph. They are talented, well rounded and fun! (and in Phil’s case, handsome!) Phil is a senior in h.s. and already impressive. He’s into scouting, hunting, and is active in a number of activities…for his portrait session I wanted to get cool, dramatic shots for him but also satisfy parents who usually want more classic shots. Here are some of my favorites from our time together:

Phil’s sister came along for the fun and I HAD to get them playing in the leaves…for anyone who has seen the fall foliage in central New York, you know what I’m talking about!

These two… just so so so adorable! What a great family!

Mile 19.  It’s a tough place to be.  I was more than halfway through running the Philadelphia marathon but still 7 miles away from the finish line.  That’s still well over an hour of running after I had already done 4 hours.  As I rounded the curve toward a water station, this woman grabbed my forearm, her face leaned in close to mine, and she said with conviction:

“Don’t give up.”

She must have seen the look of despair in my eyes.  At this point the toes on my right foot were swollen twice their size and I was just waiting to see a maroon color seep through the top of my white sneakers.  Blood — a sure sign the feet were giving up.  But the mind wasn’t ready for that option.

As I cursed myself and my lack of training (I gave myself two months to train and then quit 5 weeks into it) I kept thinking, “Just put one foot in front of the other and don’t stop.  Just don’t stop.”

I wasn’t initially going to run a full marathon.  I figured I’d stop at the half.  I simply didn’t have enough training and my schedule prevented me from dedicating to a legitimate running plan.  But when I arrived at the fork in the road and looked over at my running partner, I knew it wasn’t over.

“Get over in the left lane,” he deadpanned.  Left side meant the full marathon, right side — the half marathon finish line.  “How did I know you were going to say that?” I replied, in an equally serious tone.  I knew there was no stopping.  I thought to myself, “Now is as good a time as ever.”  To be completely truthful I couldn’t bear another few months of training for a marathon anyway.

That message from a kind stranger helped me keep going, it was a step apart from the blanket cheers emanating from the sidelines and my eyes couldn’t help but well up with tears.  Walk or run, my friend and I were going to finish this thing.

To my friend Michael, who was in much better shape than I and had to listen to quite a few grunts, murmurs and f-bombs from my side of our little running team…I can not thank you enough.

To the strangers who volunteer and cheer from the sidelines, I would shake your hand and thank you all individually if I could.  My words can’t describe the overwhelming support I felt or how much it helped.

To the woman who stared into my eyes and gave me reason to keep putting one foot in front of the other:

I didn’t give up.
