It is not often I have a day off with zero work to accomplish.  I actually sat down and thought about this, eventually realizing the last time I took an entire 24 hours off and didn’t respond to friends and clients e-mails, texts, calls, Facebook messages, etc… has been over two years.  Certainly not complaining about that fact.  Truth is, I love working.  Yet, I had carved out this time for myself weeks ago because I knew the weeks (honest: months) leading up to it would be insane.

Knowing I had a full day off, I had to (of course) ask around and plan my day.  Because what’s a day off without a day of work to plan said day off? A brilliant recommendation from a trusty coworker led me to the absolute amazingness that is Northampton, MA.  It has a downtown better than cities ten times its size.  After espressos, homemade chocolates, used bookstores and antiquing (no discoveries of old cameras, sadly), I can positively declare I am recharged.

Naturally, I fit in some street photography…

Had the great opportunity to shoot music icon Leon Russell, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year…

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the vening was that of Kristy Lee.  The opening act had a STUNNING range of vocals that left me clawing the Internet to find her album.  Found it! She is phenomenal! Check her out.

People think making a living as a photographer is about shooting, shooting, shooting…  Traveling and photographing fabulous people and places!

Ummm, yeah…not really.  That’s about 10 percent of my business.  After editing, most of my time is spent:

a.) driving

b.) sitting in a train or subway car

I’m pledging to make 2012 more street photography intensive.

I’ve been meaning to watch the sunset.  That is to say…really watch it. To put down the Blackberry and planner and car keys and itinerary.  Just watch the sunset.  It didn’t disappoint.

Had a freezingly fun time shooting a soccer game today! There was snow on the turf…hard to believe/see when the fall foliage was in full effect just last week before the snow storm hit, crippling Connecticut! People are still without power…for another weekend.  Thought I’d share this today to shake things up.  I am trying to blog every day again.  The  key term being “trying.”  Y’all know I’m gonna slip.

Jump for joy, it’s Friday!

The power is out here for the fifth straight day (insert terror shriek here) in Connecticut.  Many of the intersections are without working traffic lights so people are supposed to treat it as a four way stop.  But…we all know that’s not gonna happen! So during my stakeout today of a busy intersection, I saw about a million violations (outside of running the light and not stopping.)  About every minute someone was on their cell phone…

Where there is no power.

And people driving all over the place impatiently.
