Jennifer & Andy: Radisson Hotel Wedding

Sometimes you can’t put your finger on why a wedding was so magnificent…why you walked away after a 13 hour day and thought: I wish I could do it all over again tomorrow. For Jenn and Andy’s day, everything was great. It was just the overall vibe that everyone put off. From the moment I walked into Jenn’s house while the bridesmaids were getting ready in the morning, the warmth was overwhelming. And, it just kept on building.

One of the things I treasure about documenting a wedding day is that I feel like I get an all access V.I.P. pass to cover the most wonderful moments in people’s lives. And, when those people are incredibly welcoming, kind and helpful? Well, it just elevates the day even more. Jenn and Andy’s wedding was a unicorn day. Their timeline was a dream come true, everything fell into place perfectly, and they are one of those phenomenal couples who enjoy every moment. I tend to gush about my bride and grooms, but, give me grace, it allows me to try to articulate what I feel inside: that I’m so damn lucky, honored and astounded that they let me document their love the way I see it. It’s a gift and so is this couple.

There are these moments during every wedding when you see a shot and you really want to go for it, but sometimes you know you’ll be a huge distraction, or you know someone might have a problem with climbing on the good furniture. But during Jen and Andy’s day, everyone was so plugged in emotionally that no one even noticed me. I just love that! (And this shot is a result!)

I love how Jenn put in plenty of time during their day to get great, relaxed and romantic portraits at several locations…

Ok, ok, so obviously I love Jenn and could follow her around morning, noon and night!

Jenn and Andy have strong ties to the Utica brewery so their decor was a nod to that connection…

I tend to overshoot dessert tables. I can’t help it, I linger around chocolate, ha ha!

Shall I continue to shout this from the rooftops? “I looooove the formal dances!!”

I have this theme in my head when I document weddings, it’s what I like to call “shoot for twenty years from now.” Avoid dated shots, keep it timeless and classic. So I like to get in a picture that might reflect life at the time of the wedding (cars, buildings that denote specific locations, etc…) because you never know where the couple will end up. Then they’ll have a shot that makes them think back to exactly how it was. So, for this picture I wanted the total downtown Utica scene…

But, I always get the clean shot, with no identifying elements of the location, just for good measure…

Jenn and Andy, I won the lottery with you guys. A humble thank you, thank you, thank you. You’re both amazing.
