Here’s the thing about B-Swift…he’s got this quiet mystery to him.  He shows up and does his thing, without saying a word.  I didn’t have to direct B-Swift.  At all.  He walks in like he owns the place and you just have to follow and keep up!

Meet: TL1

TL1 is every photographer’s dream.  Truly.  He came rested, prepared, and armed with ideas.  He was incredibly patient during his portrait session and as the photos show…he’s just cool, calm and laid back.  I thought he modeled before, because he was SO natural during the process.

TL1 is with Da Squad Family out of NYC.  Check out their songs…you’ll find his demonstrate a ton of soul and passion.  He will no doubt be successful.  Some of my favorites during our time together…

A bit of history about this next photo…TL1 stood perfectly still as I took these traffic shots.  I made him be still for a good ten minutes.  He was SO patient…like a statue! I didn’t bring a tripod and had to take the shot over ten times as I left the shutter open on the camera…he is a true professional and wanted the shot as bad as I.  We got it!!

I’m saving the best for last.  I LOVE the light on this last photo.  We were walking back after the shoot and I looked back to talk to TL1…and then I noticed the light.  It looked like he was this force emerging out of the sunshine (and he is) so I’m like “you look like an angel! Do it again, do it again!” And he walked back again (and again, and again) to recreate! (Like I said, he is incredibly patient and every photographer’s dream!)

Just check this guy out already!!

Earlier this year when Da Squad Family hired me to do photos for the group’s promotional materials, I thought to myself…this is either going to look great…or be a total bomb.  I had never done portraits of rappers/hip hop artists…so I did my research.  I bought music magazines.  Lots of them.  The magazine with the best [...]

Earlier this year when Da Squad Family hired me to do photos for the group’s promotional materials, I thought to myself…this is either going to look great…or be a total bomb.  I had never done portraits of rappers/hip hop artists…so I did my research.  I bought music magazines.  Lots of them.  The magazine with the best photos (in my opinion at least) was XXL. Inspired by what I saw, I envisioned poses and lighting in my head.  All of the studying in the world however, wouldn’t have been successful without awesome collaboration.

One truly personable guy: SirTakeOver.  He is one of several fantastic guys I worked with.  I am both completely humbled to have worked alongside him but also overwhelmingly excited to have taken their photos (more on that in future blog posts.)

I love how they turned out.  I feel they captured SirTakeOvers charm and spirit! Here are some of my favorites from our time together:

Check out their music here!!

Follow them on Twitter! and Facebook!
