Kate & Aleks: The Otesaga Resort Wedding

When you have a bride as elegant and timeless as Kate, you know it’s going to be a wonderful day. She and Aleks set the tone for this stylish and beautiful wedding at The Otesaga, which remains one of the my favorite places to photograph. After I met these two beauties during their engagement session, I was smitten. It remains to this day one of the greatest engagement sessions ever, because the two just smiled and laughed and danced their way through it. You can tell by the photographs, they have something incredibly special. They spoke of how they met at LeMoyne College, cooking up something special during chemistry class, and it only grew from there.

There were a lot of favorites for their wedding as well, including her ring shot, which was extra special because it is the exact ring Kate’s father proposed to her mother. It’s stories like these, culled from the engagement session, that make me better able to tell their incredible love story…

Love Story: Shannon & Mike

Here’s something that won’t shock you at all: I live for grand gestures. I’m fueled when people take risks and live boldly, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. I love when a couple plans for their engagement shoot with special details. It makes me excited that they’re excited, ya dig? When Shannon mentioned she wanted to kick things up a notch and wear something beautifully formal, I was absolutely stoked. Whether it’s a new outfit, getting the hair/makeup done, or just bringing stuff to show me how they are as a couple, it’s really inspiring when people take the time to make the engagement session special.

Shannon and Mike brought their A++ game to their gorgeous winter engagement session recently at Franklin Square in Syracuse…

Jenna & Eric: John Joseph Inn Wedding

From the moment I met Jenna and Eric (through video chat no less), they grabbed on to my heart. The genuine kindness and thoughtfulness that flows from these two humans is astounding. I never felt like a stranger to them. When we met for their engagement session, I was instantly struck not only by their beauty, but their total devotion to each other. It was palpable. And yet, they still expressed genuine interest in photography and even my lackluster running (ha ha). Seriously, in the frenetic pace that can be planning a wedding, they were always calm, cool, amazing. It all blew me away.

Jenna and Eric’s wedding day was just…everything. It was one of those days where perfect moments and connections sprung up right in front of me, all the while people were so open to me capturing them. Each minute was an honor and a pleasure.

I love everything about them, so it was hard to narrow down some favorite photos…

One last look at the back of the dress because its was exquisite and deserves a photo shoot all on its own…

The back story behind these next fiery sunset photos: Jenna and Eric had just sat down to dinner after patiently wandering around the property to get the full contingent of formal photo groupings. This is the time when I tell the couple they can go relax and enjoy the entire reception, I’ll bother them after the last dance for night shots. They are finally relieved of photo duties and I don’t want them even noticing me! Anyway, everyone was eating dinner and the sky just opened up into this magnificent orange hue, so I ran over while they were eating to see if they wanted to grab some sunset shots. WITHOUT hesitation, they both jumped up at the exact same time and replied, “Let’s go!”

Add that to the million reasons why I love them. Their class and grace overwhelms me…oh, and I think the photos were worth it!

We literally had less than five minutes of these beautiful colors before it all disappeared…

Love Story: Chelsea & Orren

The freshly fallen snow was a delightful backdrop for Chelsea and Orren’s recent engagement shoot at Highland Forest. I’m embarrassed to say that while I’ve shot weddings here, I’ve never visited in the winter! (Can you tell I don’t do winter, ha ha) The trails, lush pines and great view make it a must see all year round. There are no two people I’d rather wander around the snow with to celebrate love than Chelsea and Orren, they are fantastic!

In the middle of our shoot, snow started gently falling again and I couldn’t be happier. It completely fit the vibe of this romantic, adventurous couple.

A few faves…

Kate & Richard: Herkimer County Wedding

Along a quiet country road with a spectacular view, two special people pronounced their lifetime commitment in front of friends and family. The peaceful and intimate setting is a reminder of how amazing a backyard wedding can be. Kate and Richard put in a ton of personal touches, like sunflowers, wooden dessert stands and painted mason jars. Guests wore cowboy boots and hats, which matched those in the wedding party. It was casual. It was relaxed. It was loving, and OMG was it fun! There was so much beauty to be captured. From the guests who clearly had the time of their lives to the V.I.P’s in the bridal party who treated me like family. As for the magnificent Kate and Richard? They are perfect. When they weren’t looking at each other adoringly, they simply couldn’t stop smiling, which made me love them even more than I already did. I can’t remember a wedding where every single person I approached (to photograph with their date) greeted me with a wide smile and open heart.

It was inspiring. A few favorites from their heart-stirring day…
